Matthew Larcome is a self-made entrepreneur, author and journalist; and is fast becoming a British icon, representing his generation of guys and girls in their twenties.
Matthew Larcome is a true entrepreneur. Born in Hampshire in 1992, his first venture was a start-up tuck shop which provided sweets, stationery and sugary drinks during break-times at school. After leaving school with bog-standard qualifications, he immediately identified that he wanted to become his own boss and decided to further this education and joined Basingstoke College in 2008 to study Business Studies.
A few months in, Matthew doubted whether college was right for him and took on a number of other entrepreneurial projects to keep him going. During his time at college, Matthew launched a student magazine, a local trade journal and a leaflet distribution firm.
During 2011, shortly after graduating from college with a National Diploma in Business, Matthew - who was currently working in a children's retailer based in Australia - decided to take the plunge and quit his job. He fired his boss and decided to start his own business. Long story short (you can read the full version of Matthew's eventful life-so-far in his new book 20Tycoon - which launches later this year) his first business failed after six weeks!
Following the success of an event he ran for students when he was at college, Matthew decided to organise a local business exhibition. Again, long story short, it was a huge success and Matthew launched Memo Events, which he continues to run today.
Now aged 23, Matthew continues to grow his business, whilst juggling his busy social life and hobbies. Matthew has attracted both local and national media attention with his success. He's featured in many UK based newspapers and made TV and radio appearances on many occasions.
